Jewellery Care

All jewellery is precious and deserves to be looked after - it is not designed to be worn while washing up, gardening, cooking or worst of all in bed. Jewellery worn continually will become scratched, distorted and dirty! Keep all your jewellery in separate compartments of a box or jewel roll to avoid diamonds scratching each other or your other jewellery. Keep chains fastened to avoid tangles.

Diamonds

With a little care & attention, your diamond jewellery will last a lifetime. Diamonds have a natural affinity to grease and so oils, cosmetics, dust and dirt all contribute to make them look dull. A clean diamond looks bigger and sparkles more. We recommend regular cleaning with Hagerty Jewel Clean to keep them looking their best. Have the settings checked from time to time to ensure that there are no worn or missing claws - replacing a lost diamond can be expensive!

Pearls

Cultured pearls are easily damaged and should always be kept separately as they can become scratched. Cosmetics, perfume, hairspray etc. will attack the lustrous surface and ultimately destroy it, so always ensure that your pearl jewellery is the last thing you put on. Pearls can be cleaned in warm mild soapy water, Hagerty Pearl Clean or, of course, we can clean them professionally for you - perhaps next time they need stringing.

Gold

Gold jewellery can be kept clean & bright using Hagerty Jewel Clean and then gently rubbed with a soft, dry cloth, but only professional polishing will remove scratches
SilverMost silver jewellery can be cleaned using Hagerty Silver Clean - rinse and dry thoroughly & then rub up with a silver polishing cloth.
Antique JewelleryPlease ask for advice before cleaning antique jewellery as immersion in a fluid could ruin it.

Watches

All watches require regular servicing. A mechanical or automatic watch needs to be cleaned every 3-5 years, even if it is still working, to avoid unnecessary wear to the movement. Quartz watches also require servicing to replace the seals etc.
